RAINBOWS!
By Poetri
What did mama tell you rainbows were?
I mean, mine told me that they were...well...a fricken rainbow.
She really didn't explain it any further
other than it was beautiful and happened after the downpour.
When I was a kid, I saw them all the time.
I read somewhere about the leprechaun's secret hiding place for his pot of gold.
It became this place where all my dreams would come true.
So whenever it rained, I would try to sprint towards the end of a rainbow.
Yet, it would just keep moving further and further away.
And soon I found myself always running to something
that I would never reach...my pot of gold! My eternal happiness!!!
But, as an adult, things have changed.
Life ain’t easy and I’m starting to get drained from life’s constant rain.
These days, I find myself frantically hunting down my joy,
but there are no rainbows in sight.
It’s like they disappeared after I reached 30!
And it is not like I’m blind, my life is a little rough more than enough times.
Don’t dare say I ain’t trying!!
You think I like suffering? You think I like doing wrong?
You think I like sitting in my car crying to the latest gospel song?
Walking the path of the Lord is narrow, I’m just looking for my rainbow.
I can’t even find it, let alone walk to the end of it.
Rainbows are optical and meteorological
phenomena that cause a spectrum of light to appear
in the sky when the Sun shines onto droplets of moisture in the Earth's atmosphere.
At least that is what the dictionary says.
Nothing to do with God, right. Of course, not.
Even though GOD was the first scientist,
science and GOD don't gel too often. Ironic to me, but whatever.
So, I am reading about Noah and the flood and all that jazz.
And then I come to this. After the Flood…
12 And God said, This is the sign
That is how GOD would sound…at least it seems like
This is the sign of the covenant I am making between me and you and every living creature with you, a covenant for all generations to come:
13 I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth.
14 Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds,
15 I will remember my covenant between me and you and all living creatures of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life.
16 Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth.
So, now I'm tripping right. .
I mean, I know, that GOD created everything and everything,
but I never knew the significance and the deepness of this beautiful creation.
It all makes sense. A lot of times my life doesn’t make that.
So, I have been anxiously awaiting the day to see my rainbow,
so I can remember that GOD is there, that GOD is with me. That GOD has my back.
The devil is a liar. They say it never rains in
as far as I can tell, it rains enough times, yet, I still can’t seem to find…my rainbow.
I’m in the pursuit of something more than GOLD.
Get the L out of there, cause I’m looking for GOD.
I get so distracted by all the side shows and tap dancing that goes around.
When I am out in this evil world, I feel like I always need ways to remember HIM.
But, GOD, storms have rained on my life in every season.
And I have searched, cried, broke down,
got down on my knees, looking for a reason.
And when I look to the sky, just to see if you are there.
all I see is clouds and more storms in my forecast.
Remind me that YOU are still up there, controlling things.
That everything is okay. Where is my rainbow?
And when my daughter Genesis asks me, "Daddy, what is that in the sky?"
I will give her more than, "It is a rainbow, honey."
No, I will sit her down and tell her the story of You and Noah
And how many people will try to take you out of this world that you created.
But, you, the Almighty ONE also left reminders for us.
Fresh dew on the early morning grass.
A smile from a stranger.
And rainbows.
